Hello everyone 👋 Let’s dive into a new article about Twitter/X. In the previous article, I explored the topic of the popularity of X, discovering that the news surrounding its widespread use was either a meme or simply a fake from Elon Musk. Now, I want to conduct an investigation 🔬 into the security aspect of Twitter/X.
To start, I conducted an experiment regarding the potential spread of malicious programs through the X platform. I embedded malicious code into a PDF file and sent this file via direct message between two of my accounts (for research purposes, I created a new account). Overall, I easily transmitted the virus-infected file via a direct message, indicating that X lacks algorithms for checking files in messages. It’s worth noting that this is a nuanced situation. For example, a messenger like Signal also lacks algorithms for checking data. On the other hand, Skype is armed and won’t let malicious code pass in messages. This suggests that X doesn’t have message-checking algorithms, potentially ensuring privacy, but it also increases the risk of receiving infected files from malicious actors.
I highly recommend being extremely cautious about files forwarded by strangers!
Now, let’s move on to improvements. X has implemented a new user verification system, aimed at reducing the creation of new bots.
Additionally, account protection has been enhanced! Two-factor user identification has been added, providing an extra layer of security to safeguard the account from external interference. Many different platforms have long been using this option.
A few words about malicious links 🔗 A brief exploration of X reveals numerous links to casinos and other suspicious resources. I believe there’s no need to extensively delve into this topic or provide evidence. Instead, I’ve opted to present ample evidence regarding the safety concerns for children.
Content 18+. As part of the safety discussion within X, it’s essential to address whether the platform is secure for individuals under 18. I recall Elon Musk making a post in which he mocked Instagram, suggesting that the platform contributes to the spread of adult content.
Before I started searching for adult content, I suspected that most likely I would find explicit content, something like naked female models. But after a few minutes of searching, I was rewarded! Platform X is full of pornography and perversion! The content looks like it’s on a porn site. Now I will give examples of overly explicit content that I noticed.
Many profiles contain pornographic content, both photos and videos. There are no filters to hide 18+.
There are also accounts where adult content is hidden, and there is a warning ⚠️ about the presence of such materials. However, to access this content, all that is needed is to click the View button! I don’t think 🤔 this measure is sufficient for ensuring the safety of children.
I have provided just a few photo evidence of many of which I found during a 15-minute walk in X. Now I want to show the Sensitive media policy page ⤵️
As you can see above, the rules are not enforced.
What about scenes of violence? Of course, they exist and are quite popular on this platform. I won’t be showing photo evidence because there is quite a lot of this content, and it’s highly popular on the platform, so you’ve likely seen it.
I often recall Elon Musk’s interview with the BBC, where there was a moment when Elon requested evidence of hate on the X platform 🤣. It’s an epic moment! Elon says, “Where’s your evidence of hate?!” and the journalist awkwardly remains silent in response 😂. Personally, I find the demand for evidence of hate to be extremely hypocritical and foolish… It only takes a few minutes to find hate on X! If someone needs evidence for well-known facts, they probably should check into a psychiatric hospital!
Regarding spam! Spam on the platform is Elon Musk’s primary promotion tool. My new and old accounts are not subscribed to Elon Musk’s page, but I constantly see his posts in my feed. You can escape this by blocking Elon’s account. I want to add that a premium-paid account has an advantage over a regular account. I would support the idea of premium benefits if, in addition to payment, some real verifications were required.
Conclusion: Twitter, now referred to as X, is not safe. Be very cautious when using the platform, and I recommend approaching information posted in X’s top ratings with caution.
